Not-for-profit resources and templates

BDO aims to support the not-for-profit sector that does so much to support New Zealand communities. One of the key way they do this is by sharing information and resources with sector participants across New Zealand.

The not-for-profit section of the BDO website contains resources and articles that address many of the challenges faced by New Zealand Not-For-Profit (For-Purpose) entities, and offers insights into challenges that not-for-profits may be facing as part of their ongoing operations. 

The resources and templates include:

Accounting Standards (GAAP)
  • Accounting standard summaries to help you gain a high-level overview of New Zealand Generally Accepted Accounting Practice Standards.
Model Financial Statements
  • Example financial statements - a source of general technical reference.
Trustee Due Diligence Checklist
  • A checklist providing a list of questions a person may consider before accepting a Board position.
Trustee Skills Matrix Template
  • A table of competencies designed to identify the current knowledge base of a Board and to note any gaps.
Leadership and Governance - Not-for-Profits
  • A paper that looks at leadership and governance in the not-for-profit sector.
Corporate Partnerships Matrix
  • A matrix with a set of initial criteria to use to ensure sponsorship is carefully considered so that it works best for all parties involved. 
Reserves Matrix
  • Questions to determine what your organisation's reserves might need to cover, and guidance on the target reserve level for the organisation.

You'll also find information and insights into a range of areas that not-for-profit entities may be facing as part of their operations including impact reporting, Incorporated Societies requirements and Statement of Service Performance information among others.
