SafePlus self-assessment resources

SafePlus is a voluntary, health and safety performance improvement toolkit for organisations and businesses. It defines what good health and safety looks like and was developed jointly by WorkSafe New Zealand, ACC and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE).
The SafePlus toolkit supports organisations to build collective ownership of performance through in-depth conversations and in developing a culture that includes everyone's health and safety practices and ideas. You can read the SafePlus factsheet here.
The toolkit has three options, including free self-assessment resources that you can use to self-check current practices and performance with your team.
The SafePlus framework focuses on three key areas that are important to achieve good health and safety outcomes:
- Leadership
- Worker engagement
- Risk management
A SafePlus self-assessment survey helps you gather feedback from everyone in your business, from senior managers to frontline workers. It is a great way to help you to understand your health and safety practices.

Note: a former, online version of this tool was retired in June 2025. User access is no longer available and all account data is being destroyed. The new version includes the same survey questions as the former online tool and provides you with resources to manage the self-assessment process and analyse your results.
