Volunteering Best Practice Guidelines / Te Anga Whaitake

Created: October 25, 2018 at 12:13 PM | Updated: February 18, 2025 | By Volunteering New Zealand

Volunteers / tūao give their unpaid time and skills to communities and causes they believe in. This volunteering action needs to be nurtured and enabled.

The Best Practice Guidelines | Te Anga Whaitake toolkit has been developed by Volunteering New Zealand using a co-designed and sector-led process.

The tool describes seven practice areas based on the volunteering life cycle journey covering:

  • what volunteers need
  • what good practice looks like, and
  • actions organisations can take.

You'll find practical resource links for each practice area. You can identify the area you need support on now or work your way through the tools and resources.

The guidelines have been designed with small to medium sized community organisations in mind, however anyone can use them.
