Lessons for good governance for non-profit and community organisations

What are the characteristics of good governance in Aotearoa New Zealand?

In 2022, the LEAD Centre for Non for Profit Governance & Leadership embarked on a journey to define good governance by studying the strengths and capacities of well-regarded nonprofit boards.

These nonprofit boards, highly regarded in Aotearoa New Zealand, expressed high levels of satisfaction with their work. They find meaning, purpose, satisfaction, and even joy in their roles by letting go of the quest for the perfect role description that promises eternal governance satisfaction. Instead of limiting themselves to a narrow range of roles and activities, they understand that while there are common features, there is no one-size-fits-all approach.
