Quick introduction to CommunityNet Aotearoa

The Home page

You can return to the home page at any time by clicking on the CommunityNet Aotearoa logo.


On the home page you can see the newest resources that have been added to CommunityNet Aotearoa, the most popular resources, and resources contributed by various organisations.

 The three sections on the home page are:

  •  Latest resources - resources listed with the most recent resource first (see more of these resources by clicking on 'View all')

  • Most popular - listed by the resource rating - starting with the resource with the most 'likes' (see more of these resources by clicking on 'View all')

  • View resources by organisation - a selection of contributing organisations

 You can browse through the listed resources, clicking on 'View all' to see more resources. 


Searching overview

If you are looking for a specific topic, type a keyword or phrase into the 'Search for a resource' field in the header section and click on the search symbol 


On the home page you can also search for or filter resources by category (administration, communication, governance etc) - just click on one of the category names:

To search from any other page, type a keyword or phrase into the 'Search for a resource' field in the header section and click on the looking glass

 Scroll down to view your search results. 


Order of results

When you search for a key word or phrase, the results are displayed in the order of their relevance to the search e.g. the best 'fit' is listed first.

You can change the order of these search results by using the drop down option:

The other search sorts are:

  • Date: the most recently updated resources will be shown first
  • Rating: the most popular resources will be shown first

Search results

The search results display a quick view that allows you to quickly find the resources you are looking for.

The resource quick view includes:

  • Title
  • Short summary of the resource
  • When the resource was last updated
  • How popular the resource is
  • Who contributed the resource
  • The type of resource

There are five types resources on CommunityNet Aotearoa. They are colour coded to help you quickly identify what type of resource you are viewing.

  • How-to guides: for community organisations new to a process or topic


story and case study

  • Stories & case studies: about organisations' experiences and learning


information and advice

  • Information & advice: such as new research, useful examples and thinking about topics relevant to community organisations


tool and template

  • Tools & templates: such as tips, checklists and documents that organisations can use and/or modify


shared link

  • Shared links: to recommended and useful websites


View the full contents

To view the full contents of a resource, click on the title or anywhere in the content area.

You will then see the full contents of the resource as well as information about the resource.

Registering for CommunityNet Aotearoa

Creating an account is not compulsory and you don't need a registration to see any of the resources on CommunityNet Aotearoa however you will get more out of CommunityNet Aotearoa if you have an account.

Once registered you can:

  • Add resources to My Toolkit (learn more)
  • Subscribe to contributing organisations
  • Share resources 


Start by clicking on the Log in/Register button at the top right.

Complete all the information in the Register form then click on Register for CommunityNet now.

Logging in

Once you have created an account, you can log in each time you visit CommunityNet Aotearoa or retain your logged in status by selecting Keep me signed in.

If you forget your password, click on I've lost my password and a password reset will be sent to you.

Following organisations

You can choose to 'follow' organisations and receive updates by email whenever they add new resources. 

Go to the organisation's home page either by clicking on their name link on a resource like this:

...or clicking on the organisation's logo (at the bottom of the home page).

These will both take you to the organisation page. This gives you information about the organisation (including contact details etc) and lists all the resources they have contributed.

Once you are on the organisation page, click on the Follow this organisation link at the right side.

Alternatively, you can follow an organisation directly from any resource. 

Simply click on  the Follow this organisation link at the bottom right of the resource. 

To stop following an organisation, click on the Unfollow this organisation link.
